Leipzig- an art lover’s paradise

From Frankfurt, I decided to visit this beautiful city, Leipzig. It is an art lover’s paradise and the most popular city in Saxony for a visit. Leipzig is a major intellectual, cultural center and is considered the music capital of Germany, as well as a European center for musical arts. The InterCity Express connects all major German cities and travels at speeds of up to 300 km/h. It is definitely the fastest and cheapest way to travel around Europe. I took a train from Frankfurt to Leipzig. It takes around 3h 34m to go by rail from Frankfurt to Leipzig, a distance of approximately 184 miles (296 km).

I was reading so much about the eco-friendly hotels online, I had to stay in one of them this time. You can choose to stay in any one of these eco hotels which is environmentally sustainable.

Radisson Blu Hotel, Leipzig

I loved the initiatives taken by The Radisson Blu Hotel Leipzig. It is an ideal location for a comfortable stay in Leipzig. We enjoyed a great view of the city center or the east of Leipzig and a quiet night’s sleep because of their soundproofed windows. Radisson Blu Hotels around the world are adopting a growing number of best practices to protect the environment. Low carbon footprint, upcycling and sustainable practices are just a few examples of Radisson Blu’s green approach to hospitality.

Leipzig is an excellent place to explore new things. If you are a city art lover, you can’t miss doing these things. I loved visiting all of them and clicking beautiful pictures.

Things to do:

Visit Residence of Felix Mendelssohn: I explored the private residence of the famous German composer Felix Mendelssohn, who started his career in 1826. He composed the music for Shakespeare’s play “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”.

German composer Felix Mendelssohn’s house

Explore the largest cotton mill, Baumwollspinnerei: I was amazed to visit Europe’s largest cotton mill, founded in 1884. It is one of the few places that was not bombed in the war because its owners cultivated chives on the roofs of every building, misleading rivals for empty lawns. Some buildings are now used as galleries for emerging artists.

Leipzig’s Bayerischer Bahnhof: My day would have been incomplete without visiting Leipzig’s Bayerischer Bahnhof. It is Germany’s oldest surviving railway line from 1842 and is now a brewery. You can choose your favorite one from over 100 types of draft beer. They produce roughly 2000 hl yearly. All beers served are usually unfiltered. Brewmeister Matthias Richter took us to a tour at Bayerischer Bahnhof and explained the history of Gose beer.  I absolutely love this place!

Visit the inner-city square, Augustusplatz: This beautiful place embodies Leipzig’s historic charm. Architects from three different centuries have contributed to the square’s skyline with their respective designs. I loved admiring the cityscape of the sprawling square and checking out some of Leipzig’s most famous landmarks. The Augustusplatz square hosts regular local events, and the historic façade provides a beautiful backdrop.

Meal at the famous Max Enk: We had a super good meal at the great spot, Max Enk. I started with some artichoke, had Fried Mozzarella, tomato sorbet and fresh greens, truffle pasta with spinach.

Self-guided Tour at Leipzig Music Trail: Music lovers will love the Leipzig Music Trail. I visited specific points and monuments dedicated to master musicians in the history of this city. Most of these points are within walking distance of each other, so I walked to explore.

Learn about Leipzig city’s history at Altes Rathaus (Old Town Hall): Towering east of the Market Square, it is considered one of Germany’s most important secular Renaissance buildings. The Old Town Hall faces the Market Square. The hall also houses the fascinating Leipzig City History Museum. I had a great experience learning about the city’s glorious past.

Take a stroll through one of Europe’s most famous shopping arcades: The Mädler Passage is a vast collection of exclusive and luxury stores, famous restaurants and bars. I had a gala time shopping.

Leipzig is a fascinating place with a long and thrilling history that has shaped the place into what it is today. This place is a must visit!
