Jodhpur, the “Blue City”of Rajasthan

Recently, I had the pleasure of embarking on a two-night journey to this enchanting city, exploring the iconic Mehrangarh Fort, indulging in street food delights, and basking in the tranquil luxury of the Dhora Desert Resort and Spa.

Mehrangarh Fort: A Majestic Citadel

My journey in Jodhpur began with a visit to the crown jewel of the city – the Mehrangarh Fort. As I ascended the imposing walls of the fort, the panoramic views of the city below left me awe-inspired. The fort, perched on a hill, stands as a testament to the architectural prowess of the Rathore dynasty.

Within the fort, the intricate carvings, expansive courtyards, and well-preserved artifacts vividly narrate the history of Jodhpur. The audio guide, available at the entrance, provided fascinating insights into the battles, victories, and royal lifestyles that once echoed through the fort’s corridors.

The Street Food Odyssey

No visit to Jodhpur is complete without savoring its mouthwatering street food. The city’s narrow alleys are a culinary haven, and my gastronomic adventure began with a visit to Janta Sweet Home.

Janta Sweet Home is renowned for its crispy jalebis and spicy mirchi vada. The burst of sweetness from the jalebis perfectly complemented the heat of the mirchi bada, creating a symphony of flavors that lingered on the taste buds.

Next on my list was Arora Chaat Bhandar, a local favorite for samosas and moong dal kachori. The crispiness of the samosas and the rich, spicy filling of the moong dal kachori made for a delightful snack. The vibrant atmosphere of the bustling market added an extra layer of enjoyment to the culinary experience.

Another gem in the culinary landscape of Jodhpur is Shri Mishrilal Hotel, known for its refreshing lassi. The frothy, sweet lassi provided a perfect respite from the spicy indulgences of the street food stalls. The age-old recipe and the traditional ambiance of the place added to the authenticity of the experience.

Dhora Desert Resort and Spa: Tranquil Oasis in the Dunes

Leaving the bustling city behind, I ventured to Dhora Desert Resort and Spa, a luxurious retreat located two hours away from Jodhpur. As the landscape shifted from the urban sprawl to the golden hues of the desert, anticipation mounted for the desert oasis that awaited.

Upon reaching Dhora, I was welcomed by the serene surroundings of the resort. The accommodation seamlessly blended traditional Rajasthani architecture with modern amenities, offering a luxurious yet authentic experience. The spacious rooms, adorned with local craftsmanship, provided a comfortable haven after a day of exploration.

The resort’s pièce de résistance was undoubtedly the expansive sand dunes that stretched into the horizon. A camel ride through the dunes provided a surreal experience, allowing me to witness the mesmerizing play of light and shadow as the sun began its descent.

As evening unfolded, the resort arranged a breathtaking sunset setup in the dunes. The warm glow of the sun painted the sky in hues of orange and pink, casting a magical spell over the desert landscape. It was a moment of pure tranquility, made even more special by the desert’s vast expanse.

At Dhora, the culinary team took pride in presenting a menu that celebrated the rich heritage of Rajasthani cuisine, with a focus on vegetarian options that captivated the taste buds. The resort’s commitment to sustainability and supporting local communities was evident in the sourcing of fresh, organic ingredients from nearby farms.

One of the standout dishes that I had the pleasure of indulging in was Dal Baati Churma, a quintessential Rajasthani delicacy. The dish comprised baked wheat flour balls (baatis) served with lentils (dal) and a sweet crumbly mixture of wheat flour and jaggery (churma). The smoky flavor of the baatis, combined with the hearty dal and the sweet churma, offered a delightful harmony of textures and tastes.

For those seeking relaxation, the spa at Dhora offered a range of rejuvenating treatments. The skilled therapists, using local ingredients and ancient techniques, provided a holistic wellness experience, leaving me refreshed and invigorated.

The adventure continued with a desert safari, unveiling the hidden treasures of the arid landscape. The knowledgeable guide shared insights into the unique flora and fauna that thrive in the desert, creating a deeper connection with the natural surroundings. My favorite experience was the high tea set up in the sand dunes during sunset and folk rajasthani performances at night
